A note went home earlier this week asking parents to update (if necessary) the contact information on each child’s blue card (Amendment to Blue Card). If you did not receive this notice, please Dojo your child’s teacher, or call the main office and we will have another copy sent home. This is an important school initiative, so please make sure you have received the notice. Teachers will begin collecting the “Emergency Card Amendment” in class from students. Parents may also bring a completed form with them to Parent Teacher Conferences on 11/14 or 11/15.
Remember…PS 172 students will get a “No Homework Night” on Wednesday November14th (for PTC) and will launch the 2nd NO HW WEEKEND” on Wednesday 11/21 for Thanksgiving weekend.

A quick note about Parent Teacher Conferences… In order to make the night move more smoothly please remember that all students are expected to stay with their parents if they attend PTC. Students cannot leave their parents to join up with friends or hang out in a specific classroom. Children must be supervised by their parents for the entirety of the conference!
Our fifth grade students are participating in new financial literacy program entitled Vault – Understanding Money. The program introduces students to the basics of money management, budgeting, even planning for college!
On Thursday 11/15, our students will have their first half day of the school year. This year, the ½ day dismissal schedule will be different from schedules in previous school years. All Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Parents can pick up students at their normal dismissal location. A note will be sent home next week as a reminder.
Another school safety update: We are trying to improve our school “sign-in” process during school-wide, grade-wide or even classroom events to which parents are invited. The normal process would be for each parent to show ID at the front desk before entering the building. In cases where the school is hosting Parents as Learning Partners or there is a grade-level performance for parents, this sign in process can be tedious and time time consuming. Instead, we will pilot a program in which we send home a Visitor sticker(s), along with parent invitations to events. Parents are asked to wear the sticker to school so that we can fast-track their entrance into the building. The sticker colors will vary depending on the event. If a parent should forget to wear their sticker, they will always be able to sign in at the front desk. We have placed the stickers on order and expect them to arrive shortly.
