Today the school conducted its first “lockdown” drill of the school year. Teachers and students did a great job and are well prepared in the unlikely event a real lockdown is ever needed. Another drill will be held next month. Parents will receive adequate notification of the time and date of the drill.

The PTA is organizing a group to meet at the Ragamuffin parade in Bay Ridge tomorrow (10/13) - Information was sent home with your child last week.
Important!!! Just a reminder…Dogs (or any other animals) are not permitted in the school yardfor several reasons… 1. Even well trained animals can be unpredictable 2. Many of our students have pet allergies and 3. Many people, especially children, have a fear of dogs. Please refrain from bringing your pet onto school premises.
Parents of students in kindergarten through fifth grade– because of cafeteria regulations regarding food handling in addition to issues regarding sufficient seating for students – please do notsit with your child during breakfast service. All students should be dropped off for school at the main entrance and enter the cafeteria with a monitor. Please note: Parents of Pre-k students are welcome to stay with their child during breakfast.
The PTA meeting originally scheduled for October 30thhas been moved to Tuesday October 23rdto accommodate a special presentation about our after school enrichment program. Hope to see you all there!
Friday, October 27thwill be our annual “DADS – Take Your Child to School Day”. A flyer with more information will be sent home.
Get Ready to dress up! – PS 172 will be hosting its first Costume Parade on October 31stat 9am. On that day, students in Pre-k through second grade will parade through the main entrance over to 29thstreet, then proceed to walk through the school yard to 30thstreet and finally return to the building through the main entrance. Parents are invited to cheer kids on along our mini-parade route. Students in grades 3-5 are invited to dress in costume for the day and will be along the parade route to cheer on their lower grade classmates. More details will follow in the coming weeks.
Mrs. Hendrickson will be hosting a school tour on Tuesday 10/16 at 9am for parents interested in attending PS 172 in the 2019-2020 school year. Tell your friends and neighbors!
