The school year is off to a great start! Thanks for all your help and support on the first 2 days of school. Students made a seamless transition to their new classrooms and our teachers began the year helping students acclimate to the rules and routines of their new classrooms.
On the first day of school, students brought home a packet of material for you to read, review and sign. It is critical that these forms are returned to school immediately. If you have not yet returned these forms, please take some time over the weekend to review and sign the material and send them into school on Monday with your child.
Don’t forget to join us for our first Family Night on Thursday September 12thfrom 4:30 – 7:30pm. This is a great time to meet your child’s teacher and get an overview of the curriculum your child will explore this school year. Parents will also be able to sign up for November 2019 Parent-Teacher Conference appointments.
An enrichment fair will be held during Family night on Thursday September 12th. Join us in the auditorium between 5:30 – 6:30pm and explore the variety of enrichment activities your child can sign up for. The first after-school enrichment cycle will be announced soon.
Two additional organizations will be featured during parent night:
ATLAS DIY will be here to offer FREE, SAFE and CONFIDENTIAL immigration services. They will also be here to assist anyone in need of a photo ID by organizing appointments for IDNYC. This is especially important because new rules for NYC schools prohibit anyone from entering a NYC school building without photo identification. A flier will be sent home next week with more details.
UPROSE will be here to sign families up for Sunset Park’s first solar cooperative. There will be no sign up fees, no solar panels to install and families will find savings of 15-20% off their current energy bills. A flier for the program will be sent home next week as well.
On Family night, teachers will introduce parents to Pupil Path, our new online communication system. Pupil path will allow parents to log in and check on their child’s academic progress, homework record and attendance online. Parents can also use the system to communicate with any of their child’s teachers. To sign up for the system, parents must have a working email address. We will have a table to support parents that may need help in setting up an email on family night as well. Look for us in the auditorium.
The “After 3:00” program is set to begin on Monday September 16th. Space is limited and is only available for working parents. See Mrs. Hendrickson in the main office if you are interested.
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly and conserve resources, the weekly “principal’s notes” will be sent home through pupil path. It will also be available for viewing on the school website PS172.org. Paper copies will be made available for parents upon request. If you would like a paper copy of the notes, please sign and return the request below. A paper copy of the notes will be made available school wide for the next two weeks.
