Fifth grade parents: District 15’s Middle School Fair will be held on Monday October 28th from 5pm – 7:30pm at The Park Slope Educational Complex at MS 88. This is a good opportunity to find out about all the middle school offerings in District 15.
This week, I attended a community meeting at the 72nd precinct to continue safety discussions about the newly installed bike lane on 4th Avenue. As a result of the meeting, the police have committed to increase ticketing for anyone parked in the No Standing Zone in front of the school building. While I realize this is an inconvenience for many parents, it is crucial that the lane be available to school buses at arrival, dismissal and for class trip pickups and drop offs. If you leave your car unattended (even with hazard lights flashing) you run the risk of being ticketed. If you pull into the lane to wait for 3:00 dismissal, you run the risk of being ticketed. Remember, a No Standing Zone allows for immediate pick-ups and drop offs only.
The PTA is planning another NYC Marathon viewing party and bake sale on Sunday November 3rd, a Bingo night on November 15th and a flea market on November 23rd. A notice with more details will be sent home by the PTA as well as posted on our class dojo. If you have any questions or are able to volunteer your time or make a donation to support the event, please contact PS172parents@gmail.com.
Thanks to all the parents that attended our second “Parents as Learning Partners” event of the year. Pictures from the morning have been posted on class dojo.
As you may have noticed, breakfast at PS 172 has been changed to support a more mobile method of meal service. Beginning at 7:30am a bagged breakfast will be available to any child that wants it. Students that arrive late may also take a bagged breakfast with them. The change in the breakfast program is part of a NYCDOE initiative that has been implemented across all 5 boroughs for several years. PS 172 is one of the last schools to implement the program. If you would like to offer any feedback about the program, I would be happy to relay your opinions and ideas to the NYC DOE school Food Program. Please email me directly at EGunder@schools.nyc.govand write breakfast in the subject line.
Beginning on Tuesday 10/29, workers will begin to rearrange the scaffolding in the schoolyard. This work is in preparation for the construction of our new gymnasium, which should begin a week or two after the scaffolding work is complete. I will send out more specific information about our construction start date as soon as I receive official word. The scaffolding work should last approximately 4 days and unfortunately, the schoolyard will be closed beginning at 3:30 for the duration of that work.
