School will be closed on Monday January 21st for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This week at school, students explored the legacy and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. As a school community, we also discussed and are asking students to participate in “A day of service”. We have encouraged students to reach out and provide a service to others in their communities or even at home. Please send pictures of your child/children participating in their service activity and email the photos to JGulino2@schools.nyc.govor EGunder@schools.nyc.govwith your child’s name and class in the subject line. We would like to create a hallway display honoring the students and the work they did to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and would love for each of your children to be included.
A limited after school academic program will begin for students in grades 3-5. The program will be offered by invitation only. Invitations and permission slips for the program were distributed today. Please complete the permission slips and return them to school on Tuesday 1/22.
Enrichment cycle I has ended. Surveys will be distributed next week for Enrichment Cycle II. A Dojo message will be sent to let you know when to expect the survey.
If you have visited PS 172 this week, you will have noticed the scaffolding being set up around the perimeter of the building. This is in preparation for a project that will repair the exterior brickwork, replace the exterior “flooring” on our second floor roof play space as well as the fencing that surrounds that space. I will keep you posted as to the expected duration of the project as soon as I receive word.
