It is hard to believe that winter recess is already here. Today, PS 172 teachers and students showed up in their PJ’s for school spirit day. Check out class dojo to see some pictures.
Congratulations to our kindergarten and first grade students for their performances this week. Kindergarten students presented their annual holiday show for parents and first graders gave a choral performance highlighting their study of community and the way celebrations help bind a community together.
Congratulations to our 4thgrade teachers and students for their production of Wonder which was debuted for parents on Wednesday evening. The students did such a terrific job that we organized a second showing for our second and third graders on Thursday morning. A special shout out to Mrs. Todras, who wrote and directed the musical and to Mr. Mannino for his musical direction.
This week, 10 of our students worked with student mentors from Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design to construct two Little Free Lending Libraries. Each library will be placed in a separate location. Community members are encouraged to take a book and leave a book so that the library is automatically replenished. We plan to leave one library inside the school building (at least for now) and post another on the perimeter of the building. We will be scouting out an appropriate location.
On Wednesday afternoon, our fifth graders buddied up with a kindergarten student to read a holiday themed book and complete a connected craft. The fifth graders developed their own lesson plans for the occasion. The students had a great time!!
Our first cycle of academic after school sessions is complete. We plan to launch our second cycle the week of January 13th. Students will be invited to the program by their teacher based on their specific academic needs. If your child is selected, they will bring home a permission slip for you to sign in the second week of January.
The PTA is planning a Dance-A-Thon on January 10, 2020 from 7pm – 9pm. The PTA will use the proceeds from this event to support our school’s next cycle of enrichment after-school. I urge you all to show your support, put your dancing shoes on and join us for a great time!
Another reminder: Kindergarten registration began on December 11th. The deadline to submit an application is January 21, 2020.
