It was great to see so many parents during this week’s Parent Teacher Conference. If you did not have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, you can contact the main office at (718) 965-4200 and we will help you set up an appointment. Classroom teachers will be making an effort to reach out to parents as well.
We had two great organizations represented at this year’s PT conference, if you would like any information about the organizations described below, please call the main office or contact our parent coordinator, Mrs. Hendrickson at (347)286-5350.

Great news! Ms. Todras’s Donor’s Choose Project entitled “Bringing West African dance to Brooklyn” was fully funded. A special thanks to the many parents that donated to the project. The funding will enable the school to partnerwith Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation and give our third grade students the opportunity to learn West African dance through a master dancer and educator accompanied by a professional drummer.
This week third graders performed at an assembly showcasing their “World Changers” unit of study. During their study of biographies, students researched an individual they felt made a positive contribution to the world and completed a project showcasing what they learned. In art, students completed self portraits based on the work of Frida Kahlo and in dance, they celebrated “world changers” like Alvin Ailey and prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief. The students did a great job!
Special congratulation to PS 172 first grader Joandy Camacho-Duran. He is a semi-finalist for the PS Art Exhibition that will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this spring for his owl painting.
There is a little time left to complete your parent survey. Please see Mrs. Hendrickson for any assistance you may need. When you send in your survey (bring the sealed envelope to school or bring in confirmation of online submittal) your child will be entered into a raffle to win a new iPod touch.
