On Wednesday, NYC school’s Deputy Chief Academic Officer for Teaching and Learning, Phil Weinberg and Mirza G. Sánchez-Medina, Deputy Chief Academic Officer for Multilingual Learners, visited classrooms here at PS 172 to look at the work we are doing in advanced literacy. Our visitors were exceptionally impressed with the work our students were doing and the confidence each student showed while expressing their ideas, sharing their insights and asking questions. The staff and students at PS 172 never fail to impress!
Ms. Nerone, Ms. Yost and class 4-301 recently unveiled their third floor bulletin board display. This display is special because a QR code accompanies each report hung on the wall. When the QR code is scanned with your phone or iPad, it launches a website featuring short movies of students talking through important scenes from each of the books they recommend. Well done 4-301, you created PS 172’s first “talking” bulletin board.
This week a notice went home to families that celebrate Ramadan. Please read the letter, respond to the questions, and return your responses to school. Parent feedback will help us make plans to support our students appropriately. If you did not receive the notice, kindly contact the main office at (718)965-4200. We will be happy to send you a copy.
Vision Futuro is a local community organization advocating for students with special needs. They want to make sure that NYC schools are accessible and provide students with appropriate space and materials. They hope to have a parent volunteer available at arrival and dismissal times to collect signatures for a petition. For additional information about the organization or their mission, email email@example.com call 347-447-4192.
NYS Math testing will begin in the first week of May, following our Spring Break. A notice containing more specific information about the test as well as tips for testing will be sent home next week.
Reminder: because of spring recess and the administration of the NYS exams, the school will not host a Parents as Learning Partners event during the month of April.
