We have just completed out first full week of school and teachers and students have been working hard on establishing classroom routines and procedures. Students have adjusted to their new classrooms remarkably well. We thank you all for your support.
On the first day of school, students brought home a packet of material for you to read, review and sign. It is critical that these forms are returned to school immediately, especially blue cards and the blue card addendum.
Thanks to the many parents that took time out of their busy schedules to attend our first Family Night on Thursday September 12thfrom 4:30 – 7:30pm. During this meeting, parents were given instructions for signing up for pupil path. If you have not already signed up, or are having trouble logging in, please contact the main office and we will be happy to help.
The “After 3:00” program is set to begin on Monday September 16th. Only students that have been registered and approved are eligible to attend. “After 3” students without a blue card on file will not be able to be fully registered. Please make sure to submit your blue cards immediately.
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly and conserve resources, the weekly “principal’s notes” will be sent home through pupil path. It will also be available for viewing on the school website www.PS172.org
Because of DOE restrictions, only Pre-K parents may escort their children into the cafeteria and remain with them through breakfast. Pre-K parents will not be permitted into the cafeteria without wearing their Pre-K badge. Similarly, Pre-K parents are permitted to escort their children into the auditorium each morning for the month of September. For security purposes, parents must wear their Pre-K lanyard to walk their child up the stairs.
We are beginning to distribute late passes to any student that arrives at school after 8:45am. Please be aware that the late pass line (depending on the number of students) can be long. Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school on time. Instruction begins at 8:40am in every classroom. Latecomers, often struggle to catch up on the work they missed and disturb the students already settled in class.
We are in the final stages of preparation for our new gymnasium. The gymnasium will be a separate building constructed in our schoolyard. When I have information about a specific start date, I will publish it in the weekly notes as well as any line-up and recess changes that occur as a result.
The Middle school choice guide was sent home with 5thgrade students this week. We will hold a meeting for all 5thgrade parents in October to go over the middle school application process. The meeting date will be announced soon.
