Silly Friday on December 19th!

This Silly Friday is all about the holidays! Have your child wear their favorite holiday jammies and bring in a favorite holiday book or stuffed animal. Please bring $1 donation to support the PTA's ongoing activities. 

For parents there is a Cafecito at 8:00 am in the auditorium and at 8:40 am join your child in class for Parents as Learning Partners. 

New! Monthly Parent Workshops

Mr. Spatola and Ms. Gundersen, P.S. 172's Principal and Assistant Principal, recently announced the new monthly Parent Workshops designed to educate parents about curriculum and how to support your child's learning at home. Each workshop will be led by a teacher. 

The letter (in Spanish and English) from Mr. Spatola and Ms. Gundersen contains all the relevant information and is included here for your reference.

Checkout the December schedule and keep your eye out for future schedules. 

These morning workshops are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what your child is learning in the classroom.

P.S. 172's Holiday Extravaganza is Almost Here!

By now you've probably all seen the flyers floating around for P.S. 172's Holiday Extravaganza! On Saturday, December 13th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, P.S. 172 will host a day of family fun!

Bring your family for food, games, art & crafts, pictures with Santa, a silent auction, and the grand raffle! Local vendors will be also be there selling their wares. 

Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Don't miss a very fun day for kids and adults alike! 

TOMORROW! Make Snowflakes with Kids Go Green!

Tomorrow, Saturday, December 6th, stop by the 29th Street Auditorium for a fun winter activity with Kids Go Green! We'll be making beautiful snowflakes from recycled materials. These make wonderful, festive decorations for any room!

The workshop runs from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. See you there!

The monthly garden committee meeting will be held from 11:00 am - 11:30 am in the same location. For more information, please contact ps172parents@gmail.com

Don't Forget Those Raffle Tickets

Thanksgiving is a great time to sell raffle tickets. Return stubs in an envelope with your child's name, class, and dollar amount before December 6, 2014. The drawing will be on December 13th.

Thanks to all the UNICEF trick-or-treaters; the children collected $341.62 for UNICEF.  Wonderful job!

PTA Meeting, Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 pm

The next PTA Meeting will be held in the auditorium on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 pm. Ryan Chavez from the UPROSE Climate Justice Community Resiliency Center in Sunset Park will present about his organization and how they help with Climate Change awareness and what we can do to help!

Art from the Third Grade Mexican Celebration will also be on display. We will discuss upcoming activities including Kids Go Green, Movie Nights, and the upcoming Holiday Extravaganza! 

We hope to see you there!

Call for Donations -- Annual Thanksgiving Day Baskets

Gobble, Gobble! Calling all parents, teachers, and staff to donate for our Annual Thanksgiving Day Basket Drive.

In the spirit of compassion and generosity at Thanksgiving time we like to provide four of our school families in need with a special food basket with all the trimmings:  Fresh fruit, vegetables, gravy, stuffing, juice, applesauce, turkeys, gift cards, and anything else festive and appropriate will be accepted as we reflect on all the things for which we are grateful. 

For local businesses, please note your contribution will be tax exempt as we are a non-profit entity. We would be happy to furnish a contribution acknowledgement letter.

Nonperishable items such as canned goods may be dropped off anytime with the office or in front of the PTA room.  Perishable items may be brought in to the office the week of November 24th.

Kids Go Green Hour, Saturday, November 8!

This Saturday the Garden Committee is hosting a fun Kids Go Green Hour from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 8th. Kids will be doing leaf rubbings and will make beautiful thank you cards. This is a great fall activity that celebrates the season's changing leaves. 

Please meet in the 29th Street Cafeteria. 

The Garden Committee will meet from 11:00 - 11:30 am right before the event, so come early to join that discussion if you can! All are welcome!
