Mr. G Jack Spatola, Principal * Ms. E. Gunderson, Assistant Principal
How would you spend $25,000 at P.S. 172?
What is it like to live and raise a family in Brooklyn?
How can companies engage with families in a meaningful way?
Help answer these questions and more during a special meeting with the PTA. On Tuesday, October 28th, Red Thread, a small business that specializes in market research through relationship building, is hosting a meeting for P.S. 172 parents. The school will receive $25,000 of goods and services, but we need parents to come and offer suggestions on how we can use the money!
For each parent that participates, the PTA will receive $5 (up to $5,000) to be used for enrichment. We need to have 100 parents participate, so please come out!
From 6:00 - 6:30 pm there will be food, drinks, and socializing. From 6:30 - 8:30 pm there will be discussion and idea sharing. This meeting will be held in the auditorium.
Light snacks, refreshments, and limited childcare will be available. Translation will also be provided.
**Please note, this meeting replaces the regularly scheduled PTA meeting. The next PTA meeting is on November 18 at 6:30 pm.
Don't miss out on the opportunity for your child to attend an enrichment activity after school! Send in your top three choices on the form that was recently sent home by tomorrow, Thursday, October 16th!
ATTENTION STUDENTS, PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS. P.S. 172 is running 3 Box Tops contests!
The first contest runs all year long and is for individual students. At the end of the school year, the three students with the most Box Tops will win 1st prize, an iPod Shuffle; 2nd Prize, a Barnes & Noble Gift Card; or 3rd Prize, Scholastic Books.
The second contest is the class contest. This contest begins now and runs until January 9th, with the class that collects the most Box Tops winning a pizza party!
The third contest will be for the teachers. The class bringing in the most Box Tops will win their teacher a Staples gift card.
The individual Box Tops will count for all three contests. You can find a collection sheet here or print from the Box Tops website.
As a school, our goal is to raise $2,000, so please ask your family, friends, and co-workers (where appropriate) to help you collect!
Thank you for helping to support our school and good luck!
Join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 4th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for the Green Apple Day of Service. Parents and students will be cleaning up the school's green spaces, including our rooftop garden, in preparation for winter.
The Green Apple Day of Service gives communities the opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe, and productive learning environments through local service projects and events.

4th and 5th grade parents are invited to the Middle School Fair happening tomorrow, October 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in the auditorium. Come and learn more about District 15 middle schools.
Inside Schools included P.S. 172 on their list of 15 favorite elementary schools for math and science! Inside Schools praised, among other things, the chemistry lesson where students make their own toothpaste and the way teachers adapt math problems for learners at different levels.
Congratulations to our dedicated science teacher Ms. Powierski and all the excellent math teachers!
Parents, please join us tonight for the first PTA meeting of the year. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm and is held in the auditorium. There is childcare for your children in the gym.

We hope to see you there!
With school in full swing, we know just how hard our teachers work for our children. The PTA would like to give a hearty thank you to our teachers for all the time, effort, talent, and countless hours they give to our kids. We would also like to mention the kind and generous community support in making this year's teacher's breakfast possible from local vendors, including:
P.S. 172 will once again be participating in the Box Tops for Education program to help raise money for our school. The process is simple: Look for Box Tops on hundreds of products, clip them, and send them in on the sheets that will be sent home with your child. Some of the products where you'll find Box Tops are Cheerios, Cascadian Farms cereal, Kleenex, Ziploc products, Yoplait, Hefty, and many more! For a complete list, check here.
Students who bring in the most Box Tops can also earn prizes. We've had great participation in past years and we thank you in advance for helping us to raise even more funds for P.S. 172. Stay tuned for more information about sending in your Box Tops. Until then, start clipping!
