P.S. 172 After-Three Program Policies & Procedures 2022-2023

After Three Program

Begins September 18, 2023

The P.S. 172  After-Three Program provides teacher/teacher assistant/school aide supervision for students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade. The program is financially self-supporting and designed to provide affordable, high quality child care to meet the needs of full-time working parents.

Daily Schedule
Students are brought to the After-Three program by their classroom teacher at dismissal. After students have gathered, they settle in with a snack and complete their homework. Teachers supervise homework time and provide help and guidance to students in need, but the program cannot guarantee that every child’s homework will be complete and corrected on a daily basis. Parents must continue to check and review their child’s work at home. Throughout the After Three session, students participate in activities led by the After-Three staff. Activities include, but are not limited to playing games, gym/recess time, arts & crafts activities, etc. Occasionally, teachers may put on a movie for students to view (Movies shown are rated G or PG). Students who decide not to participate in designated activities have the choice of engaging in a quiet self-directed activity such as reading, coloring, or drawing.

Dismissal from After Three Program
In an effort to minimize wait-time during pick up, all students are brought to the 29th Street Cafeteria at 5:00 p.m. to quietly wait for pick-up. In the cafeteria, children can color or read quietly. Although the ‘After-Three Program’ ends at 5:15 p.m., children can be picked up until 5:30 p.m., when the program officially ends. If you know that you are going to be delayed due to staying late at work, heavy traffic, public transportation delays, inclement weather, or an emergency, please arrange for your child to be picked up by an authorized person from your Blue Emergency Card or Emergency Card Amendment.

Sign-Out from After Three Program
When children are picked up, the authorized person doing pick-up must sign their child out of the program on the daily sign out sheet located at the security desk, main office, or with the After Three teachers.

Late Pick-up
We understand that people occasionally run late, but at the same time, we ask you to please keep in mind that our staff have commitments of their own. We reserve the right to drop students from the program when families exceed two latenesses (arrive after 5:30 p.m.).

Behavior Policy
Please take the time to remind your child that the After Three program is a place for all to have fun. Children who treat others, whether staff or another child, in a way that the staff deems disrespectful or otherwise inappropriate, may be suspended or even withdrawn from the program if the problem persists. Personal property, including cell phones, is not allowed and should be left at home. We are not responsible for loss/damage to personal property brought to the After Three program.
